The systems you work on plan and control production at one of the largest automotive manufacturers in Germany. They process very large volumes of data, they run every day, and they are being opened up to the cloud rather than replaced. That makes this a mainframe role with a modernisation horizon: COBOL, DB2 and IMS on one side, REST interfaces and API design on the other.
You work in a distributed team with senior mentors and short paths to the people who decide. German-level engineering standards on ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified processes, without the bureaucracy. Employment (CIM) or B2B, from Cluj-Napoca or fully remote, whichever fits you best.
What you will do
- Develop, maintain and enhance mainframe applications.
- Support and continuously optimise the systems used for production planning and production control.
- Analyse, process and manage large volumes of data on the mainframe.
- Secure software quality through module testing and through planning and running tests in HP ALM.
- Use IBM DB2 QMF for data analysis and reporting, and ITP Panorama for program analysis, defect hunting and performance work.
- Develop and operate REST and HTTP interfaces with the IBM z/OS Client Web Enablement Toolkit.
- Integrate mainframe applications with cloud-based systems and modern APIs, and coordinate those interfaces with the cloud teams.
- Work closely with the business departments and support production operations.
What you bring
- Good command of German. The programme is run in German.
- Several years of developing and maintaining mainframe applications.
- Strong knowledge of COBOL, IMS DB, DB2, SQL, TSO/ISPF, Proba, JCL and IBM MQ.
- z/OS Client Web Enablement Toolkit, including HTTP/HTTPS and the JSON parser.
- Hands-on with Xpediter, ITP Panorama, QMF, HP ALM and Jira.
- Experience with large datasets and complex application landscapes.
- A structured, analytical, quality-oriented way of working, and clear communication in a team.
Nice to have
- Experience in the production planning environment of a large automotive manufacturer.
- REST clients built on the mainframe with the IBM z/OS Client Web Enablement Toolkit.
- Designing and operating interfaces between mainframe and cloud systems.
- JSON, API design, rate limiting and error handling in mainframe-to-cloud integrations.
- Basic knowledge of modern software architectures such as cloud computing.
