You join a long-running programme for one of the largest automotive manufacturers in Germany, working on enterprise Java applications that carry real production load. The focus is modernisation: an established estate moving from Java 11 to Java 17+, from Java EE to Jakarta EE 9+, and from Struts and Spring 5 to their current versions.
You work in a distributed team with senior mentors and short paths to the people who decide. German-level engineering standards on ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified processes, without the bureaucracy. Employment (CIM) or B2B, from Cluj-Napoca or fully remote, whichever fits you best.
What you will do
- Design, develop and maintain enterprise Java applications in a large-scale automotive environment.
- Migrate applications from Java 11 to Java 17+ and from Java EE to Jakarta EE 9+.
- Upgrade persistence layers from JPA 2.2 to JPA 3.x and from Hibernate 5.x to Hibernate 6.x.
- Migrate legacy Struts modules to Struts 6 and upgrade Spring 5 applications to Spring 6.
- Develop and maintain JSF 2.x user interfaces and migrate UI components to standard JSF and PrimeFaces.
- Analyse existing codebases to identify migration risks and the refactoring they require.
- Work with the architects and take part in code reviews and testing.
What you bring
- German at professional working level. The programme is run in German.
- Solid experience as a Java Developer, ideally including legacy-to-modern framework migrations.
- Java 11 through Java 17+, Jakarta EE 9+, JPA 2.2 to 3.x, Hibernate 5.x to 6.x.
- Struts and its migration to Struts 6, Spring 5 and its migration to Spring 6.
- JSF 2.x, including UI components on a Tomcat-based setup.
- Agile delivery in Scrum or SAFe, and experience with distributed or nearshore teams.
- Confident use of Jira and Confluence.
Nice to have
- Completed Jakarta EE or Java EE migration projects.
- PrimeFaces or another JSF component library.
- Experience in an automotive environment.
